I’m Evan Mason
One of my favorite and most impactful memories that I have is saving a raccoon trapped in an industrial garbage can in my old apartment complex. When I first opened the garbage lid, the raccoon looked at me and I could see the defeat in its eyes. I had a strange connection to the raccoon and felt very connected to it. I rolled up my old carpet that I was throwing out, and made a ladder for it to crawl up on. It crawled up slowly, looked at me, and then turned back around to go into the woods. Other’s have had experiences like this with wild animals, and I think it’s such as great example about our connection to other living beings on Earth.
I started this website in July of 2026 as a way to record my animal welfare learning journey. I’ve always wanted to try and make a difference in the world, and I realized I never would unless I actually start to try. When thinking back to that experience with that raccoon (and many other experiences with animals), it became clear that animal welfare was the path for me. But before I could do anything to help fix the issues, I knew I should actually educate myself on the subject first. How could I make an impact without really knowing what was going on?
Maybe I will find solutions to help animals in a different way than is being done today through my self learning. Maybe I won’t. At the very least, I will be much more educated on the subject. By making this website and writing about what I learn, I hope that I can possibly educate others too.
Please see my “Learning Log” to view my book reviews, thoughts, findings, and more to be on this journey with me!
